Teasing the Korean Posted January 10, 2009 Report Posted January 10, 2009 Tea with honey and a touch of lemon is great. Drink orange juice. Get sleep. Gargle with warm salt water, if you can stand it. BTW, if you have to cancel an appearance, can those of us who bought a ticket get a raincheck? Quote
BERIGAN Posted January 10, 2009 Report Posted January 10, 2009 Sorry about that! I only had it happen once, were I truly lost my voice. I was a trainer at Borders in the 90s' and had 2 newbies to give the grand tour of the store, and naturally, had to do nearly all the talking. Started to lose my voice, but kept on keeping on. Well, middle of the afternoon,my throat was getting more sore by the minute, and I had to give up. No sense when I could barely whisper. Next day, I couldn't make a sound! I mean, not a sound. I had to write a note for my Mom to call the store to say I couldn't come in. Never had anything like that. I bet for 48 hours I couldn't make a peep, drank tea, honey, etc....when I finally could talk, the first word of the sentence wouldn't be there. Very Weird....Never had anything like that before or since. Anyway, I really wouldn't push it. You say you have to talk, but you might up doing some real damage if you don't let those vocal cords rest! Then where will you be???? Oh, and quit singing in that Marilyn Manson cover band! Quote

jazzbo Posted January 10, 2009 Report Posted January 10, 2009 "Good Lovin'" yes of course this is a cure for everything! Yes, it helps healing. The only time I lost my voice. . .I had a bad throat infection and it took a few weeks of antibiotics to get past! And of course I waited far too long to go in for care. If your throat isn't CONSIDERABLY better early next week, call the doctor. Quote
sjarrell Posted January 10, 2009 Report Posted January 10, 2009 When I was a youngster (with a blown out voice an important gig a day away), I was prescribed a fast acting course of steroids and BOOM! I was better fast. So if you're really desperate, there's a fast pharmaceutical solution. Otherwise, type instead of talk! Quote
Ken Dryden Posted January 11, 2009 Report Posted January 11, 2009 Drink Jack Daniel's Black Label Tennessee Whiskey, straight up... Even if you don't get your voice back, you'll feel better. Quote

Christiern Posted January 11, 2009 Report Posted January 11, 2009 If it's any consolation—and it probably isn't—Nat Hentoff also lost his Voice. Or was it the other way around? Seriously, voices have a habit of returning. I just hope you don't find yourself in a library when it does. Quote
