Dmitry Posted March 15, 2009 Report Posted March 15, 2009 Correct me if I am wrong, but the relationship between jazz music and Hem may be close to near not existent, from what i remember reading his books. It is somewhat surprising. He certainly have seen many jazz greats, and himself was a part of the Jazz Age. Has anyone got any recollections on him having written about jazz music? He was friendly with Zelda Fitzgerald, now what about Ella Fitzgerald? Did he dislike jazz? What kind of music did he enjoy, then? Quote

Niko Posted March 15, 2009 Report Posted March 15, 2009 (edited) there is one slight jazz reference in the sun also rises where brett tells about having heard some great black drummer in paris... (the first scene with brett? the one with the baron?) reading in michael dregni's django biography i had some idea who that drummer might have been... Edited March 15, 2009 by Niko Quote

BillF Posted March 16, 2009 Report Posted March 16, 2009 I read a Hemingway biography a few years ago and seem to remember that his first reporting job at the age of 18 or 19 was with the Kansas City Star in 1917-18 and that he frequented clubs where jazz was already being played. I don't recall any references to a continuing liking for the music later in life. Quote
