ghost of miles Posted May 5, 2009 Report Posted May 5, 2009 If anybody has a copy of this, could they contact me off-board? Hoping to use it in an upcoming show...rumored to be up for reissue later this year, but I don't see anything on the horizon yet. Quote
Clunky Posted May 5, 2009 Report Posted May 5, 2009 Great CD, what I've never got is a 1990's band playing 50/60 s music with cover art with determinately 20s look. No doubt the new Hat reissue will eschew such nonsense and have a nice picture of a lamp post or two plus a few clouds ( Paris ) in place of the lovely Lulu. Quote

Nate Dorward Posted May 9, 2009 Report Posted May 9, 2009 (edited) The 20s cover art is simply a pun: Louise Brooks' most famous role was Lulu in Pabst's Pandora's Box. Incidentally, if you get the Criterion edition, try the solo piano soundtrack on there (there are multiple options for accompaniment): it's a very nice set of variations on a Bix Beiderbecke tune by the French pianist Stephane Oliva. I hate, hate, hate the stupid cover art on new Hat Art CDs. The reissues replace all the groovy original covers with those drab pics of urban nothings. Edited May 9, 2009 by Nate Dorward Quote
JohnS Posted May 9, 2009 Report Posted May 9, 2009 A super set. The melodies are treated with total respect and it makes you realise just how good some of these themes are. Quote
