The Celine Dion/car commercial.....

Alright, here's the deal. I never really paid attention to whatever car commercial has that silly Celine Dion song. Saw it tonight during Letterman and found this line more than a little puzzling: "isn't it ironical that love is all we need."

Here's what I can't wrap my brain around:

(1) I'm not convinced that "ironical" is actually a word;

(2) it's in no way ironic that love is all we need; and

(3) if they're trying to convince us to drop $30,000 on a car, why are they reminding us that 'love is all we need'?

Amazing.....

According to Dictionary.com:

ironical

\I*ron"ic*al\, a. [LL. ironicus, Gr. ? dissembling: cf. F. ironique. See Irony.] 1. Pertaining to irony; containing, expressing, or characterized by, irony; as, an ironical remark.

I would've thought you were right and it wasn't a real word. I guess Celion's songwriters are smarter than us.

As for your second point, considering that Burt Bacharach told us almost 40 years ago that "what the world needs now is love", not to mention the Beatles singing "All You Need Is Love", Celion is a little behind the times. Maybe that's the ironical part.

Third, I guess they're trying to say if you buy a $30,000 you'll be loved, give love, and make love at all the same time. Amazing, isn't it? Who knew.

So if you don't own this $30,000 car does that mean no love? If that's the case a lot of people are in a hell of a fix.
