That's the date of the Dizzy band concert at Salle Pleyel in Paris.

Issued on Vogue and on Swing and lots of (re-)issues - but Hank Mobley????

According to Walter Bruyninckx' discpgraphy, "Embraceable You" was (re-)issued on relatively few discs so is not included in all the reissues of that concert.

But the saxophonist is listed as being Bill Graham each time.

Diz was leading a similar group the following year. "Siboney Part I" and "Siboney Part II" were recorded in NYC on May 25 1954 by Dizzy Gillespie, Hank Mobley, Wade Legge, Lou Hackney and Charlie Persip. I have them as extra tracks on Diz and Getz (Verve).

Sure there is:

That it is small groups only is the reason why not the entire Jazz Recital is included. Personally I hate when Mosaic does that (and they have done it on other sets too). I prefer to burn box sets in album configuration and download and print cover art and I can't do that when the albums are incomplete. Chronological Classics had reached 1954 and was close to covering the missing 1955 tracks, but now they seem to have gone belly-up, so one can't get the missing tracks that way either. Oh well, it's not easy to be a jazz collector...

That said, if it is the Mobley tracks you are after specifically, the good news is that both small group sessions he did with Diz are included complete. They were also on the last Classics CD. There is an ensemble vocal on Hey Pete, so chances are you can hear Hank singing somewhere in there too!

The eight Diz Quintet/Sextet with Hank (Jimmy Cleveland is added for the sextet) tracks are very entertaining. The Classics cd is well worth seeking out.

what classics cd exactly has the mobley stuff? that might be a lot easier for me to track down than the mosaic!!

The Mobley tracks are on Classics 1424, Dizzy Gillespie 1953-1954.

And Bill iisn't Siborney by Diz and Getz?
