Van Basten II Posted September 5, 2009 Author Report Posted September 5, 2009 Bizarro world ends at least temporarly as Federer wins the second set and Djokovic breaks twice his opponent Quote
Van Basten II Posted September 5, 2009 Author Report Posted September 5, 2009 Both favourites hold on none without some difficulties. Quote
Van Basten II Posted September 5, 2009 Author Report Posted September 5, 2009 Young Oudin is about to eliminate Sharapova. Mary Carillo had a great line, you can't double fault more than the age of your opponent. Oudin is 17 , Sharapova has so far 19 double faults. Quote
AndrewHill Posted September 5, 2009 Report Posted September 5, 2009 Kid wonder Oudin earns another upset. Quote
Van Basten II Posted September 5, 2009 Author Report Posted September 5, 2009 Unless someone pulls out because of an injury, they will be some overtime on central court tonight, 3 games remaining and two involving men, you have conservatively at least 6 hours of tennis and a strong chance for a lot more. Van Basten II Posted September 5, 2009 Author Report Posted September 5, 2009 Not showing it on the tube but Soderling has just beaten Querrey, no USA USA chant for the Grandstand fans today. Quote
Van Basten II Posted September 6, 2009 Author Report Posted September 6, 2009 (edited) When i said, it could be a long night, the Roddick-Isner match is now in the 5th set tie-breaker, is there a curfew for the start of a game ? Edited September 6, 2009 by Van Basten II Quote
Van Basten II Posted September 6, 2009 Author Report Posted September 6, 2009 Wow A-Rod was beaten, if there was a guy i'd bet he would go through today. Since it's US Open time, AND Quentin Tarantino has his new movie out, I guess it's time for the annual "Hey-Federer-And-Tarantino-Look-Like-Twins!" post. And as a bonus, I stumbled on this comparison: And now, back to tennis... In a somewhat related story http://www.usopen.org/en_US/news/articles/....html?promo=top Quote
Van Basten II Posted September 6, 2009 Author Report Posted September 6, 2009 (edited) Safina played with fire and got burned. Clijsters- S. Williams anyone ? One thing for sure this 7th day was quite special. Edited September 6, 2009 by Van Basten II Quote

Too big servers going head to head....and Isner took out the Rocket??? I had a good feeling about John when he joined the US Open series two years ago, when he was fresh out of U of Georgia and I knew he had potential when he took a set off of Federer that year. But my guess was he was going to go far. Quote
AndrewHill Posted September 6, 2009 Report Posted September 6, 2009 Nadal two sets to one, but both Almagro and Nadal are receiving treatment, but it seems that they're both better now. Quote
Soulstation1 Posted September 6, 2009 Report Posted September 6, 2009 My pick Serena wins the ladies championship Quote

AndrewHill Posted September 6, 2009 Report Posted September 6, 2009 The big match of the day is on deck Venus versus Clijsters At the same time will start on a smaller court Del Potro against Austrian underdog Koellerer. Clijsters just consolidated her break. Quote
AndrewHill Posted September 6, 2009 Report Posted September 6, 2009 make that a double break lead -_- Quote
AndrewHill Posted September 6, 2009 Report Posted September 6, 2009 Man, Clijsters looks nothing like she had a baby and took a couple of years off. She is totally out-playing Venus at the moment. Quote
AndrewHill Posted September 6, 2009 Report Posted September 6, 2009 So when is the match starting between Clijsters and Venus? Quote
AndrewHill Posted September 6, 2009 Report Posted September 6, 2009 Man, this match has taken a bizarre twist with both of them trading six-love sets. Quote
Dan Gould Posted September 6, 2009 Report Posted September 6, 2009 Going in I thought it was bad luck for Venus to get Clijsters in her draw. Glad to see her pull it out, anything is better than a Williams sister advancing. Can we get Martina Hingis to return? Or would she have to serve her positive test for cocaine suspension first? Quote
AndrewHill Posted September 6, 2009 Report Posted September 6, 2009 Yeah, I'm glad Kim pulled through too. I've been a fan of hers for a long time, and what makes this even more interesting is that Clijsters is a pretty dangerous player right now since she is in great shape and in good form. Maybe Venus thought that she would be out-of-sorts being off the tour for two years, but that was hardly the case, although the second set doesn't support that claim. It would be nice to see her win this title again and most certainly that would put her near a ranking in the 20's. And did anyone catch the rumor that based on Clijster's successful return to tennis, that Justin Henin is considering coming out of retirement and returning to the game? That would be awesome! Quote
Van Basten II Posted September 6, 2009 Author Report Posted September 6, 2009 Henin returning would be good news, tired of those mannequins who are afraid to break a nail, what women's tennis is more Williamses or really athletic players . Regarding The Clijsters-Williams match, Venus played like she did in her previous matches, quite spotty and erratic, she prevailed against middle of the pack players however against a very good level opponent her game was just not enough. Don,t think her preparation was wrong, she just played less than good tennis for the last few months. Quote
Van Basten II Posted September 6, 2009 Author Report Posted September 6, 2009 Don't think will be able to see any tennis tonight The sports station are showing fawking NASCAR :bwallace2: Quote
AndrewHill Posted September 6, 2009 Report Posted September 6, 2009 Me neither because I don't have the Tennis Channel Actually, I think you're right about Venus Van Basten. She has been spotty and patchy throughout this entire competition and maybe the leg injury is adding something to that, but there's no question that she was outplayed by Kim. Quote
Van Basten II Posted September 7, 2009 Author Report Posted September 7, 2009 Murray made quick work of Dent. Looking at the men's bracket. I'm sure Soderling is excited at the idea of facing once again Federer in the quarters. Strong chance that a Frenchman ends up in the semis with Tsonga and Monfils who might meet especially if Nadal is indeed injured. Think though we are headed straight for a confrontation between the two best players right now the top seeds Federer and Murray. Looking at the ladies, if Serena is clearly the favourite through the final and beyond, i have no idea who is going to meet her from the top side of the bracket, know that the fans will cheer for Oudin, but i think it is unlikely. Petrova seems to be quite constant so i'll take a chance with her. Quote
Van Basten II Posted September 7, 2009 Author Report Posted September 7, 2009 Well, so much for my prediction, Oudin eliminated Petrova Quote
