John B Posted November 24, 2003 Report Posted November 24, 2003 I've been curious about Sunna Gunnlaugs for a while now based on a few things I've read about her music online. AMG describes her as crossing piano jazz with Icelandic folk with some "bizarre sounds" and experimental music thrown in. I'm really not to sure what to make of all that so I was wondering if anyone here had heard any of her albums and could comment on her music. Quote
Christiern Posted November 24, 2003 Report Posted November 24, 2003 I didn't know there was any such thing as Icelandic folk--and I was born and raised there! Quote
brownie Posted November 24, 2003 Report Posted November 24, 2003 (edited) Always thought that Bjork was Icelandic folk Edited November 24, 2003 by brownie Quote
Jazzmoose Posted November 24, 2003 Report Posted November 24, 2003 That was my first thought while reading John's post; I was ready for "Oscar Peterson Plays Bjork!" Quote
Tom in RI Posted November 24, 2003 Report Posted November 24, 2003 I have the cd, Mindful, that AMG says includes bizarre and experimental music, see http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&u...l=A0gogtq5zpu42 I'd have to say that's hogwash. The music has personality but calling it bizarre does the date a disservice. I found it accessible and engaging. I picked it up used and basically because it has Tony Malaby on sax. Quote
Big Wheel Posted November 26, 2003 Report Posted November 26, 2003 John, if you want to hear Sunna Gunnlaugs I'm going to play her Live in Europe disc sometime before noon on WHRB today. Quote
