White Lightning Posted December 2, 2003 Report Posted December 2, 2003 A friend of mine is suppose to interview the pianist slava Ganelin. I'm hoping to collect many fascinating questions for this interview, plus any suggestions for research sources into Galenin's work. Thanks! Barak Quote
JSngry Posted December 3, 2003 Report Posted December 3, 2003 I'd think it might be interesting to hear how first hand exposure to "Free World" culture changed his musical philosophy, if indeed it did. One of the things that made the Ganelin trio so powerful was the context that their music was created in and was reacting to. I'd think that finally being able to get out/away from the environment that forged their esthetic might have resulted in some interesting internal changes. Or not. But if you don't ask, you'll never know. Quote
White Lightning Posted December 8, 2003 Author Report Posted December 8, 2003 Thanks, Jim! A great Q. Keep them coming! Quote
Dmitry Posted December 8, 2003 Report Posted December 8, 2003 Wow. Noone gives a damn. That's what happens if you don't tour the US... Quote
JSngry Posted December 8, 2003 Report Posted December 8, 2003 I saw the Ganelin Trio perform live on the Today show. They played "Mack The Knife". Quote
Dmitry Posted December 8, 2003 Report Posted December 8, 2003 That was during the Carter years? Quote
JSngry Posted December 8, 2003 Report Posted December 8, 2003 Early 80s, if I remember correctly. Quote
Alon Marcus Posted April 19, 2005 Report Posted April 19, 2005 Just out of curiosity, what happened to that interview? Quote
rostasi Posted April 23, 2005 Report Posted April 23, 2005 Early 80s, if I remember correctly. Actually, in '86 I saw them in Chicago during their US tour. I thought that I saw them before that in '78 at the Pick Staiger Hall, but after some thought, I think that I'm remembering Paul and Limpe Fuchs instead who are also great improvisers that were rarely seen in the US. --- Now playing: Steve Reich - The Four Sections I Quote
