My wife and I will be visiting New York for the 4th time now (04.27.2010 - 05.02.2010). As we have seen most of the tourist spots, this years focus will be visiting some art exhibitions, stollin' though the streets of the Village having some nice food and some drinks and last but not least listening to some hot jazz music in the evening.

What we have planned so far:

- visiting the JazzLoft Project Exhibition at the NY Public Library (http://www.nypl.org/events/exhibitions/jazz-loft-project).

- we're having Tickets Steve Kuhn, Ron Carter & Joey Baron at the Birdland Apr. 27 8:30 pm

- The Ron Horton / Tim Horner Tentet—Venture Inward: The Music of Andrew Hill - at The Stone Wednesday, 28th 10 pm

- maybe Heath Brothers at the Vanguard (should I ???)

If you have any recommendations of must see live jazz, brilliant (and payable food :-) ), some nice bars in the Village please let me know! Maybe we meet up for a beer or two!

Thanks in advance!

Michael

After a quick look at club websites,

Lew Tabackin Trio, Smalls, April 30-May 1.

Paquito D'Rivera, Jazz Standard, April 29

Logan Richardson, Jazz Gallery, May 1

Mike Stern, 55 Bar, April 28

Dave Liebman, 55 Bar, April 29.

I would add that 55 Bar, Smalls and Jazz Gallery fit in the category of nice venue to hear music and reasonably priced (unlike a place like Birdland).

The Stone is not for everyone. I like it a lot, but just note that they sell no drinks or food, and the decor is austere. It is cheap and if your interest is just music it's very nice.

Thank you very much for your comments. I'll definitively will check out smalls & 55 bar. Maybe I'll meet some of you guys! Would be fun!

Regarding food, does anybody know a really good sushi spot in the village, my wife loves sushi ?

don't forget the Open Door - Bird will be there on Sunday night. And Tony Fruscella sometimes shows up.

by the way - and this is actually an accurate post - I would try to find out what's going on in Brooklyn, which is becoming the last NYC bastion of real music. On Fridays the Times does a jazz listing, but you might also do a search for Brooklyn jazz clubs -

Thanks Allen, Brooklyn is on my list as well. I was looking for a club where Bill McHenry and/or John McNeil are playing regularly. I think Puppet's Jazz Club is the one I've on my list.
