Hardbopjazz Posted May 13, 2010 Report Posted May 13, 2010 Getting my ticket tomorrow. Don't want to miss this. Someone who has some insight told me he will play with different musicans for this concerts. Not that I dislike his current band, but Sonny is leagues above the rest of his band. Bobby Broom colse close. I hope Sonny chooses to use an upright bass for this concert too. Free For All Posted May 13, 2010 Report Posted May 13, 2010 Sounds like it will be a great night! I'll be curious to hear who the "guests" are. Quote
Free For All Posted May 13, 2010 Report Posted May 13, 2010 I'm thinking about who it would be cool to have as guests. How about a reunion of the 1964 Now's The Time band- Herbie, Ron Carter and Roy McCurdy? Lots of possibilities for guests.....hmmm....... Quote
JSngry Posted May 13, 2010 Report Posted May 13, 2010 The only reunion I thing would have really "mattered" would have been Sonny & Max...too late for that now... Sure would be nice if they could find David Lee somewhere, though... Quote
Hardbopjazz Posted May 13, 2010 Author Report Posted May 13, 2010 Grimes and Hall were two names someone told me that were flying around. I have no way of confirming that. Also, and this is just my thoughts, how about the musicians from the Bridge. That would be Hall, Crenshaw and Riley. The only reunion I thing would have really "mattered" would have been Sonny & Max...too late for that now... Sure would be nice if they could find David Lee somewhere, though... Yeah, David Lee would be nice to hear again on drums. Quote
Hardbopjazz Posted May 20, 2010 Author Report Posted May 20, 2010 I heard that one part of the concert will be a trio with Rollins, Roy Haynes and Christian McBride. The same trio from Sonny's 2007 Carnegie Hall concert. A friend of mine was having a conversation with Christian and he confirmed that Sonny has asked him to be apart of the concert, and that Sonny was trying to get Haynes too. Man, I would love to see these three go into the studio and put out an album(CD). For now, I settle for the concert. Quote
