Shawn Posted September 18, 2010 Report Posted September 18, 2010 As far as I'm concerned, he is still ahead of his time. Quote
danasgoodstuff Posted September 18, 2010 Report Posted September 18, 2010 New box out before Xmas - sideman stuff, alternates, DVD. No coincidence? Quote
Chalupa Posted September 18, 2010 Report Posted September 18, 2010 Definitely still ahead of his time. I wonder how different popular music would be today if he had lived. I really think that the music that survives from his last album that he was working on when he died is amazing. Quote
BFrank Posted September 18, 2010 Report Posted September 18, 2010 To turn J.H.'s phrase around a bit: "I wonder how different popular music would be today if he had he not lived at all." Quote
jazzbo Posted September 18, 2010 Report Posted September 18, 2010 He's still alive for me. Forty years. Wow. Quote
Quincy Posted September 18, 2010 Report Posted September 18, 2010 I hadn't made the "40 year" connection, but for the past couple of nights I've been revisiting the purple box set with the booklet by my side to read about the mix differences and who's playing. Usually that behavior (when I'm in the mood for that kind of thing) is only practiced with jazz sets. I too continually find myself drawn to what he was doing post-Electric Ladyland. Not that there's anything wrong with what came before of course. Quote
