Peter Johnson
All: The title says it all. I recently purchased a couple of discs via Amazon marketplace, and I received (though not mentioned in the description) record club pressings. I don't actually care, and this is completely an angels on the head of a pin question, but for those in the know--is there any discernable difference between record club and retail CD pressings? I ask because I had both recordings in "another life," and I could swear these sound different. Fully willing to account for the ravages of time, etc. Curious if anyone knows. Thanks. Chuck Nessa
At least in the last 15 years or so, the pressings are made in the same plants from the same parts. The labels are different and the barcode is replaced in the printing files.
Peter Johnson
Ravages of time it is, then! Thanks, Chuck--regardless of this experience--I've always been curious.
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez
chucks exactly right, even in the 80s though columbia house cds were manufactured by DADC-- there are horror stories however, i dont remember what specific labels/titles were in question.... Ron S
My older club records always sounded pretty good to me:
