Tom 1960 Posted October 16, 2010 Report Posted October 16, 2010 (edited) I suppose I could have placed this on the Youtube thread, but I came across this program dating back in the early 60's based out of Los Angeles hosted by Frank Evans. This clip features the Gerald Wilson Orchestra performing Milestones. Milestones If you do a search on youtube of Frankly Jazz, you can come across a number of other performances featuring Howard Rumsey's Lighthouse All-Stars, Irene Kral, Jazz Crusaders, Joe Pass, Shorty Rogers to name a few. I just thought it would be cool to post this stuff since I was unaware of this program prior. Any additional info on this program would be greatly appreciated. Enjoy. Dan Gould Posted October 16, 2010 Report Posted October 16, 2010 Frankly Jazz was hosted by Frank Evans who was a jazz DJ in LA. It was done in association with Pacific Jazz & Dick Bock, I believe. At one time I stumbled across a Frank Evans website created by his son, Lance, but it never became anything more than a placeholder. So its great that they created a Frankly Jazz channel on youtube. I've got a VHS transfer of the Gerald Wilson performance, courtesy of MartyJazz. The Dupree Bolton Uptown release of a couple of years ago starts off with audio from a Frankly Jazz broadcast of the Curtis Amy Sextet. Quote
Lanny123 Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 It's great to find this site, and the discussion about Frankly Jazz. My father was dedicated to jazz, whether it was on his television program, or the radio show of the same name. There are a few more programs to upload, and I've just started a blog about his career (www.franklyjazz.wordpress.com). I hope to post more information about his broadcasting career. Quote
sidewinder Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 Big fan of the 'Frankly Jazz' shows here. They came out many years ago over here on VHS from TCB Films - I used to find them for sale second hand in the likes of Mole Jazz. Quote
