AllenLowe Posted November 20, 2010 Report Posted November 20, 2010 anybody else use this? I need something for Mac that will save playlists and burn them to CD. I currently use a freebie shareware but it won't save compilations. I've hear about some problems with Toast. Quote
cih Posted November 20, 2010 Report Posted November 20, 2010 (edited) itunes - should already be on the Mac? edit - I haven't burned a CD since they changed to Snow Leopard - apparently the 'burn' icon is now hidden(?)... "iTunes (version 10 anyway) now burns playlists to CD, not albums. So you need to create a playlist, (or move an album you want copied to a playlist), insert a blank CD, open the File menu in iTunes and select 'burn playlist to CD'." AllenLowe Posted November 20, 2010 Author Report Posted November 20, 2010 (edited) tried I Tunes; too many problems, refuses to burn sometimes. Don't ask me why..... Edited November 20, 2010 by AllenLowe Quote
mjzee Posted November 20, 2010 Report Posted November 20, 2010 Allen, you should play with Amadeus Pro. There is an option there to burn to CDs. I've never used it because iTunes has always worked well for me. I think there's a 30-day trial period for Amadeus. I've used Toast, but only for video. I dislike both the program and the company (customer service is non-existent). I'm forced to use Toast because it's the only way to transfer shows from TiVo to a Mac. Quote
Teasing the Korean Posted November 20, 2010 Report Posted November 20, 2010 One advantage of the higher end CD burning/extracting programs (such as Toast) is this: If you're copying from a damaged disc, it will either extract it exactly or it will abort. With iTunes and Windows Media, it will actually copy mistakes, such as digital repeats, if extracting from a damaged disc. I've used Toast and am very happy with it. Do not use it to create playlists though. Quote

I currently use a freebie shareware but it won't save compilations. I've hear about some problems with Toast. I've used Toast for a while and I wouldn't be without it. Just drag pretty much any audio files ( including FLAC ) onto the window and it will burn a CD quickly and effectively. The video features are also worthwhile. The utilities bundled with it include CD Spin Doctor which is a good tool for recording from vinyl. Quote
Christiern Posted November 20, 2010 Report Posted November 20, 2010 I am not sure what you mean by saving playlists and burning them, but I have been using Toast (currently Toast 10) for many years and I am very pleased with it. Quote
AllenLowe Posted November 21, 2010 Author Report Posted November 21, 2010 (edited) what I mean is that the freebie I use - Express Burn - doesn't save a playlist so one can go back and burn the same CD later. I've been dealing with this by saving the CD comps in individual folders, and then dragging them into Express Burn when necessary, which is ok, but more work. Luckily, I found a copy of Toast on Ebay that was un-boxed, for $25 - will see when I get it how well it does, though I have a feeling for what I need it'll be fine (most of the reported problems I see have to do with more complicated applications than the ones I will be using) - I also have Amadeus Pro, which I used for editing - but once again, it does not save playlists, as far as I can tell - Edited November 21, 2010 by AllenLowe Quote
Christiern Posted November 21, 2010 Report Posted November 21, 2010 Allan, Toast will ask if you wish to save the playlist. It also allows you to create a disc image of whatever you were burning, which is a good way in which to store things for encore burns. Quote
AllenLowe Posted November 22, 2010 Author Report Posted November 22, 2010 thanks, Chris, it's on the way (still loving my MAC, by the way). Quote
