Alexander
Does anybody have a transcription and/or translation of the lyrics to "Dans Le Grand Bois" by the Hackberry Ramblers?" My high school French is too rusty...
Big Beat Steve
High school French won't get you very far with CAJUN French anyway ... Will spin the record later today and see if I can make something of it.
Neal Pomea
Sounds like this to me: Moi, j'connais Ma 'tite fille T'es la bas dans l'grand bois tout seule Moi, j'm'en vas dans l'grand bois Moi, j'm'en vas dans l'grand bois Avec ma fille It sounds like avé when we say avec in Cajun French. That is the only difference I can see from Standard French. That and swallowing some syllables like je connais (j'connais), 'tite for petite, l'grand bois for le grand bois, je m'en vas for j'm'en vas. AllenLowe
I always thought that the rule in French pronunciation is that the first, last, and middle syllables are silent.

Neal Pomea
True, but it usually comes with some Ha Ha Ha Ho Ho Ho and a couple of Tra La Las!
