BeBop Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 This was the first jazz album I ever bought. Mine was on Crown, I'm pretty sure. Maybe it was Modern. It was about a dime. I'd heard of Getz. Little did I know that the tenor player on much of the LP wasn't Getz, but a tenor player I grew to prefer: Wardell Gray. I enjoyed unraveling the convoluted thread the was the discography of this album. (No liner notes on the original.) And now it's back, OBI and all. http://cgi.ebay.com/STAN-GETZ-GROOVIN-HIGH-JAPAN-/260731126410?pt=Music_CDs&hash=item3cb4c9428a Quote
Victor Christensen Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 Peter You turned me on to Wardell Gray, great tenorplayer, even if I was aware of him, one of my own very first records was a 78 with "Blue Lou" with him and Erroll Garner, still love that recording. BTW I have now the Gigi Gryce that we have talkek about. your friend Vic Quote

Chuck Nessa Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 Never saw that one. Mine was like the earlier pic. Quote
JSngry Posted February 3, 2011 Report Posted February 3, 2011 You can't really tell it from that scan, but the photo looks like it was shot off of a TV broadcast. Quote
JSngry Posted February 3, 2011 Report Posted February 3, 2011 I bought the album in 1971, so... Quote
BeBop Posted February 3, 2011 Author Report Posted February 3, 2011 Confession: After picking this up (remember, I was young) and being captivated by the Getz/Wardell mislabel/deceipt/confusion, I started picking up all the Crown/Modern/United/United Superior issues of Gene Norman concert material. I probably accumulated 100 different titles/covers. Yes, a half century ago, I was Chewy. Quote
