Yellow pages, Yelp, Google list more than two dozen stores. Where's the quality shopping for a tight schedule?

I'm not interested in vinyl, though most shops seem to have a vinyl focus - like just about everywhere these days.

To make this thread a useful reference for the future, do go ahead and include the vinyl sellers.

Gosh, I remember years ago when I made a yearly trip to visit friends in San Diego. The trip always included a visit to the old Tower Records next to the San Diego Sports Arena. Man, those were the days. I loved that place. Everything was on a single level and there jazz selection was top notch. Can't imagine what the alternatives would be these days. Like Chewy says, perhaps LA is the better bet. But what do I know? Good luck.

Wish I had the time to go to Los Angeles. I remember (distantly) when Record City used to have two or three stalls at the Kobe Flea. I think I got every OOP Conn CD that I own there at 3 for $10.

I remember one sizeable Tower Records store in San Diego which I used to visit whenever I had business trips there. It was on a busy road to the North of the centre, if I remember correctly (not sure about the Sports Arena, don't remember seeing that). I'm sure I picked up a bundle of Conns and one of the Miles Davis boxes at that place.

Not as big a selection as Tower Sunset Boulevard but still pretty good !

I miss Tower Sunset. I used to work right down the street and I'd make a stop every few weeks.

There's a couple old pro skateboarders who own a record store in San Diego. Really small, but they have a tasty selection. I forget the name.

EDIT: I believe it's called "Thirsty Moon."

Tower on Sports Arena Boulevard closed years ago. The best was Lou's Records in Encinitas, now not worth the drive in jazz terms (it's a nice drive, but...). What else there was is either closed or reduced to a shadow (Off The Record). It is actually a bit shocking for such a large city.
