Vancouver Jazz Fest

Quite accidentally I have booked myself to arrive in Vancouver on the last day (July 3) of their jazz fest. I might go to some of the free stuff and also am thinking pretty seriously of catching Atomic's 7 pm show. Anyone else going to be there?

I'm going to the Peter Brotzmann Full Blast and Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra concerts.

Full blast as reported in the other thread was a bit of a letdown, Atomic, on the other hand, wow. A warning if you plan to be sitting near the stage these guys are loud and the trumpet goes into the upper range that can make your ear scream for mercy.

I sat through a double bill of these guys and Supersilent at Bath several years ago and my ears haven't been the same since.

On the whole I am not too interested in the line-up so far, but I do think Vijay Iyer is going to be there, and I'll try to make that. Also not really jazz, but worth checking out, is Vieux Farka Toure. I may be able to make one of his shows.

David Murray is going to be there, but he is featuring Macy Gray, and that just doesn't strike me as something I want to see. Actually, Herbie Hancock will be there as well, but the tickets are very high, and his latest concert outings have been pretty underwhelming, so I think I'll pass.

So on the whole, I'll mostly be giving this a miss.

The concert I really want to see is François Tusques performing with Kidd Jordan, William Parker and Hamid Drake.
