Pete C
I currently have my audio system and TV in the same unit, but the receiver is on the fritz, and I'm wondering if I can get by without one and still use my Bose 301 speakers. I find the sound profile of those speakers just right for my room and my mostly jazz listening. Right now I have a blu-ray player connected to the TV with HDMI and to the receiver with RCA cables, and it doubles as my CD player. I also have a Western Digital WD TV unit connected with HDMI. I don't need a radio, since I use the internet for all my radio. So the question is, what would it take to make my speakers work with a TV that has an optical audio out. Any ideas? Or are my only options either powered speakers or a new receiver? Do powered subwoofers have standard stereo speaker outputs, or are they stand-alone? Or maybe something like this?: http://www.amazon.com/Audioengine-A5-Black-Bookshelf-Speakers/dp/B005OA3BSY/ I'd really prefer to simplify my setup and ditch the receiver. But wait (third edit)--maybe this is the solution to my original query. http://www.amazon.com/PCA2-80-Watt-Stereo-Power-Amplifier/dp/B001P2VV50/ and I may need to add something like this: http://www.amazon.com/FiiO-Digital-Analog-Audio-Converter/dp/B0053VKP8S/ I think this answers my own question, but I'm still interested in other ideas. sonnymax
You might want to steer clear of Pyle electronics. They seriously overrate the power output of their amps by advertising wattage in peak, not effective (rms) values. That "40w" mini-amp puts out 8w @ 1% THD.
