GA Russell Posted February 19, 2012 Report Posted February 19, 2012 Remember Peter Gunn and his girl friend Edie the nightclub singer? Edie was played by Lola Albright. She recorded two albums, both of which have been collected and released on a single CD entitled Soft Sounds. This is apparently a UK PD issue, so I won't provide the Amazon link. Her 1957 album was called Lola Wants You. I'm guessing that that was a play on the Damn Yankees song Whatever Lola Wants, Lola Gets. The arrangements and many of the songs were written by Dean Elliott. Everything about the album is sub par except for Albright herself. She shines through it all. In 1958 she landed the Peter Gunn role, and in the spring of 1959 she recorded an album for Columbia with Henry Mancini called Dreamsville. As you might expect, many of the songs are from Peter Gunn. Mancini's arrangements are very similar to his Gunn work, including the use of the vibes. Five stars! It's a shame that Albright didn't record more. She would have given Julie London a run for her money. Quote
paul secor Posted February 20, 2012 Report Posted February 20, 2012 Lola then (on Peter Gunn): Lola now: She still has style. Quote
JSngry Posted February 20, 2012 Report Posted February 20, 2012 Is that her who played Darren Stevens' mother on Bewitched? Quote
GA Russell Posted February 20, 2012 Author Report Posted February 20, 2012 Jim, there's no mention of that in her Wikipedia page, so apparently not. But it does say that she won a Best Actress award for her role in Lord Love a Duck. Quote

That photo was listed as Lola Albright on a site I found. So what does Lola look like today? Quote
JSngry Posted February 20, 2012 Report Posted February 20, 2012 She appears to have disappeared. Quote
Ted O'Reilly Posted February 20, 2012 Report Posted February 20, 2012 She appears to have disappeared. Hmmm... Sounds like a Zen koan. I'll have to work on it for a while. Quote
