I found this real funny because is so true; at least here in the US.

You should know that by today's standards none of us were ever supposed to make it.

Very nice!!! I find this current trend of overreaction in our society highly disturbing. It seems to be predicated on the "political-correctness" that we have over-preached, and on the avoidance of law suit litigation at any cost.

Teachers here in New York have become robots lacking any semblance of imagination. They are required to answer any email/phone call from all parents, no matter how ridiculous. The State has made courses on the awareness of bullying, sexual predators and the dangers of Facebook part of the core curriculum. It's gotten so ridiculous that anytime an unfamiliar car is seen in any of the school parking lots more than once, I receive an email warning me to "watch out for" my kids' safety. I shudder to think what message all of this is really sending to our children.

This would be junior high 1977, but my school had a target shooting team with a shooting range in the basement of the school. So if you were downstairs after school you'd see 13 & 14 year olds walking around with rifles and it was normal. It's a "fun" thing to mention when another school shooting happens.

Those dirty, dirty, politically correct ACLU hippies. I mean, all we're saying is that you should learn English to graduate; it's not like some schools forbid kids from speaking Spanish at all or something. Why, that would imply that our nation's schools are run by a bunch of backward disciplinarian twats who invent bullshit strawmen to justify their own racism!

Oh wait.

Certain morons over here have implemented all of this too

Really, all of it? Cite one single case of a female UK teacher hugging an 8-year-old boy and subsequently getting fired for sexual abuse. No need to compare to, oh I don't know, actual documented cases of teachers boning their students.

While we're at it with the whole "let's pretend shit never happened back in the days before we got old enough to fart out dust", let's add:

1957: Johnny goes to church by himself, hangs out with priests, performs altar boy rites, nothing whatsoever happens. God looks down and smiles.

2012: Same thing, duh!

True, I remember my high school, John Adams in Ozone Park, NY, had a target shooting range in the basement. It was closed when I went there in the 70s, but only because of budget reasons.

I went to 8th grade in West Virginia, part of the requirement for passing gym class was completing a "hunter's safety course". They weren't allowed to use guns, so they taught everyone how to bow-hunt. In addition, the first day of Deer season is a state-wide school holiday.
