Fer Urbina Posted May 9, 2012 Report Posted May 9, 2012 [Hope this is the right thread for this] Most of us in London will know Paul Pace. He's being in the jazz scene for ages, he manages the gigs at The Spice in Cambridge Circus (I think he also does some work at Ronnie's Upstairs)... and tomorrow he's on a TV programme on Channel 4, The Hoarder Next Door. With all the limitations of a 50-min TV show, a programme about a jazz-loving man who has too much stuff at home... this should be interesting for a few of us. F Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted May 9, 2012 Report Posted May 9, 2012 Never heard of PP, but feel an affinity. Been thinking of "cleaning stuff out" after dealing with the "leftovers" of my parents and my wife's parents. Ones treasure is junk for others. Quote
JohnS Posted May 10, 2012 Report Posted May 10, 2012 Thanks for the advance notice. I'll watch tonight. Quote
sidewinder Posted May 10, 2012 Report Posted May 10, 2012 (edited) Thanks for the advance notice. I'll watch tonight. Ditto ! I bought a few things from him when he manned the desk at 'Ray's'. This programme could probably have been a shoe-in for the late Ed Dipple of Mole Jazz, with his jazz LP collection stored in a lock-up garage. Jazz LP collecting and London housing don't mix ! Big Beat Steve Posted May 10, 2012 Report Posted May 10, 2012 Never heard of PP, but feel an affinity. Been thinking of "cleaning stuff out" after dealing with the "leftovers" of my parents and my wife's parents. Ones treasure is junk for others. Same here. Except that I cannot yet bring myself to "cleaning out" among my own stuff (apart from a scant few items which won't amount to much). But my latest vinyl and CD purchases made me realize the ceiling has definitely been reached now. What is more, I am still far from finished with dealing with the "leftovers" of my parents and grandparents. One's junk is another one's treasure indeed, which is why I hate throwing out too much unseen/unchecked, but disposal/sale progress is slow. BTW, the hoarder phenomenon is given coverage in a TV series here too, including the inevitable "reality TV" interludes of how an antique dealer comes to the recue of the hoarders (who finally want to get rid of their accumulated odds'n'sods) and shows them how to sell, set up stalls at fleamarkets, etc). Though (thank goodness) I am a million miles away from the "hoarders" (in THAt sense of the term) all too much of it sounds strangely familiar. The affinity is inevitable ... Quote

sidewinder Posted May 11, 2012 Report Posted May 11, 2012 Thought Paul P's place was extremely orderly compared with the 'rat house' that dominated the show. Strewth ! Quote

sidewinder Posted May 14, 2012 Report Posted May 14, 2012 (edited) I wonder when he worked in Ray's For most of the 2000s - at least from when they were located at Foyles (they were located in the same area as the Cafe at that time and not on the 3rd floor where they are now). Not sure before that. Edited May 14, 2012 by sidewinder Quote
Head Man Posted May 15, 2012 Report Posted May 15, 2012 I wonder when he worked in Ray's For most of the 2000s - at least from when they were located at Foyles (they were located in the same area as the Cafe at that time and not on the 3rd floor where they are now). Not sure before that. I think he may have worked at The Shaftesbury Avenue shop just before it shut. But yes, he worked regularly at Foyles when Ray's transferred there. I don't get to London much now - is he still working there? Quote
sidewinder Posted May 15, 2012 Report Posted May 15, 2012 (edited) I don't get to London much now - is he still working there? No. Ronnie Scott's these days, I think. Plus very active in London gig promotion. Edited May 15, 2012 by sidewinder Quote
