Dan Gould Posted August 1, 2012 Report Posted August 1, 2012 With all due respect, yada yada yada, I know only of the public man, who I found beneath contempt. Hopefully he bought an extra burial plot so that his ego could be properly interred. YMMV. Quote
Pete C Posted August 1, 2012 Report Posted August 1, 2012 (edited) Of course, anybody who would proudly quote Jonah Goldberg would feel that way... http://www.truthdig.com/eartotheground/item/catching_up_with_gore_vidal_20120801/ Edited August 1, 2012 by Pete C Quote
Tom Storer Posted August 1, 2012 Report Posted August 1, 2012 At least Vidal outlasted Buckley. That must have been a matter of no inconsiderable schadenfreude for him, as long as it lasted. Quote
Dave James Posted August 2, 2012 Report Posted August 2, 2012 A fair number of you probably weren't around or were too young to notice when Vidal and Buckley had their disagreements. Buckley was usually so buttoned down and in control, that to see him completely lose his cool while discussing the VIet Nam war with Vidal at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago in 1968 was quite remarkable. Let me tell you. Those were the days. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted August 2, 2012 Report Posted August 2, 2012 He gave me pleasure and inspiration in my youth. Thanks. Quote
cih Posted August 2, 2012 Report Posted August 2, 2012 (edited) they've been showing that Buckley/Vidal clip on the news over here (plus a memorable one of him being rude to an amused David Dimbleby on UK election night TV).. to be fair though, most people lose their cool when compared to the Nazis (regardless of the wit of the comparer) - if it happens on an internet forum the outcome is always the same Edited August 2, 2012 by cih Quote
