romualdo Posted August 31, 2012 Report Posted August 31, 2012 I'm wondering if the writers of the Spider-Man theme (Paul Webster & Robert Harris) had been listening to Mingus Have been listening to CM's "Ah Um" & the track "Boogie Stop Shuffle" (1959 - written 8 years earlier) sounds similar to "Spider-Man"(1967) Just played "Boogie Stop Shuffle" to my partner (without giving her any history etc) & her first comment was that it sounds like "Spider-Man" - so it's not just me!! jazzbo Posted August 31, 2012 Report Posted August 31, 2012 Okay, seems the secret is out: Charles Mingus WAS Spider-man. Quote

If you ever see the Mingus Big Band perform Boogie Stop Shuffle, you'll be treated to Ku-umba Frank Lacy singing the words to the Spiderman theme over Mingus's music. It's funny to watch the faces of audience as they experience the same "ah-ha" moment you describe. Quote
