Tom 1960 Posted September 23, 2012 Report Posted September 23, 2012 Don't have either. Which would be the best way to proceed? Quote

J.A.W. Posted September 23, 2012 Report Posted September 23, 2012 (edited) Depends on what you prefer. The set has all the master takes and alternates, which might make it a difficult listen if you don't program your CD player. I had most of the original albums on Japanese CDs, but sold them and got the set instead. I have no idea what is still available. The original albums included in the set are: ● West Coast Jazz ● Stan Getz and the "Cool" Sounds (only the tracks that were recorded in 1955; the remaining tracks are included in the Hip-O set mentioned below, except for the studio version of a live recording that was mistakenly used) ● The Steamer ● Award Winner also included are: ● one track originally issued on The Soft Swing (U.K.) ● one track originally issued on The Verve Collector's Item ● alternates and stuff that was previously unissued in the U.S. [edit] If you get the Hip-O 3CD-set Quintets: The Clef and Norgran Studio Albums and East of the Sun you'll have virtually everything Getz recorded for Norman Granz between 1952 and 1957 - the studio recordings, that is, with the exception of a live date that was mistakenly included in the former set instead of the studio recording.
