Blue Note App for iPad

Recommended Posts

Check out the announcement for a new Blue Note app for iPad that was released today:

http://m.news.emihosting.com/nl/jsp/m.jsp?c=43853b2fb80d8c0e22

The app is actually pretty nice... it contains 30-second sound samples for a ton of BN albums, album covers, short bios of most BN artists (mostly the hard bop folks of the 50s-60s), some cool old newspaper clippings from the 50s-60s, etc..

And, if you're willing to pay $1.99/£1.49 per month, you have unlimited access to full songs ("up to 320kbps quality") from the catalog.

NOTE: The full BN catalog is definitely NOT available from my brief surfing of the app.

Agree, it is worth checking out. I paid the $1.99 to gain full access. Between this and their Spotify app, they are being as progressive as any record label out there.

Not commenting on the economics of Spotify and/or this app. But in terms of a quality presentation, they are both very good and I would argue useful even for a "veteran" listener.

And at the end of the day, what a great way to introduce the music to new listeners - I can't imagine what it would have been like to have these resources as I started listening to the music 30 years ago!

One thing I am noticing on the iPad app is that they do not present the full catalogs for a particular artist. Also, some of the songs are "not available" but are "coming soon".

I think the links to news articles are pretty cool, a bunch of them come from the NY Times from the last 20 years. Videos are cool too ... they are pulling in stuff from youtube and other sources. Watching Big John Patton play "Fungi Mama" ... pretty cool!
