I am listening to the Tadd Dameron Royal Roost Broadcast from 1948 tonight. These shows went on consecutively for a few months. This appeared to be true for a lot of working bands back in the 40s and 50s. Anyone have an idea when these long engagements at clubs stopped? I would believe it would have been in the late 1960s. Of course this was due to the decline of jazz when rock came into existence.

Middle 60s as I understand it, more or less over by the end of the decade. Caused not just by the decline of jazz' popularity, but also the increase in price of the biggest attractions, again, as I understand it.
