JSngry Posted December 20, 2012 Report Posted December 20, 2012 (edited) http://articles.chic...el-inez-andrews http://www.suntimes....dies-at-83.html Not sure how accurate it is to say that she's the "last" singer of her era, considering that she & Shirley Caesar sang together in The Caravans, but still... Once heard, never forgotten. Rest in peace, Songbird. Edited December 20, 2012 by JSngry Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted December 20, 2012 Report Posted December 20, 2012 And Dorothy Norwood - or has she died, too? And Lou Rawls, though in a different group. RIP Inez. MG Quote
JSngry Posted December 20, 2012 Author Report Posted December 20, 2012 (edited) Dorothy Norwood lives. Another classic. I know more than a few people who will stop whatever they're doing when this one comes on. Yonder come Jesus! Edited December 20, 2012 by JSngry Quote
paul secor Posted December 20, 2012 Report Posted December 20, 2012 Some INTENSE Inez Andrews that I've loved for years: Thank you, Ms. Andrews. Quote
paul secor Posted December 20, 2012 Report Posted December 20, 2012 More Inez Andrews: It's startling to me how dignified and composed her performing persona is, in contrast to the intense emotionalism of her singing. Quote

The Magnificent Goldberg Posted December 20, 2012 Report Posted December 20, 2012 Yes, yes. 'This is not the first time I've been last' is a wonderful album. Produced by Gene Barge in the ABC/Peacock era, with all the usual mid-seventies suspects, and it works superbly! (I think ABC tried to keep their hands off Peacock, except for a few of the more recent groups; the Dixie Hummingbirds, Mildred Clark & the Melodyaires, Rev Oris Mays, Rev Leo Daniels, as well as Inez, all made great albums in the ABC era.) John L Posted December 21, 2012 Report Posted December 21, 2012 RIP. Inez Andrews was one of America's greatest singers, and certainly one of my favorites. Those Caravan tracks with Inez Andrews leads just can't be beat. Quote
Tom Storer Posted December 21, 2012 Report Posted December 21, 2012 Sad news. I have you to thank, John, for clueing me into Inez Andrews and a lot of her superlative singing from the "golden age." RIP. Quote
