GA Russell Posted March 10, 2013 Report Posted March 10, 2013 Roy Brown, the designer of the Edsel and the Cortina has died. My recollection of the Edsel (and maybe those of you who are older may remember differently) was that it was a good car which was overpriced. They had basically two models - a Mercury priced like a Lincoln, and a Ford priced like a Merc. People didn't see the need to pay the premium. http://www.latimes.com/news/obituaries/la-me-roy-brown-20130310,0,7077935.story Quote
sidewinder Posted March 10, 2013 Report Posted March 10, 2013 (edited) I owned a Cortina Mk III for quite a few years - typical 1970s machine. Got to be very fond of it (with its vinyl roof) but I had to finally part with it when the whole gear level came away from the gear box housing in my hand. A good car for DIY - you could always find the bits you needed in breakers yards and it was truly fully maintainable by the owner, given a reasonable garage, tools and the Haynes manual. The Magnificent Goldberg Posted March 10, 2013 Report Posted March 10, 2013 I thought Roy Brown was more interested in Caddys MG Quote
robertoart Posted March 10, 2013 Report Posted March 10, 2013 My first car was a Ford Cortina mid 80's model. Fried the motor. Quote
