felser Posted March 30, 2013 Report Posted March 30, 2013 Workig my way through the big "Jazz on Vogue" box, and ran into Buzz Gardner's bop trumpet playing on the Rene Thomas set (and other places in the box, I believe). Wondered if it was the same Buzz Gardner who played (along with his brother Bunk) with Frank Zappa in the late 60's and on Tim Buckley's unhinged "Starsailor" album (talk about your artistic suicide) . Sure enough. That's quite a well-rounded discography for a trumpeter. Quote
brownie Posted March 31, 2013 Report Posted March 31, 2013 His Wikipedia entry http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buzz_Gardner He was on trumpet with Zappa's Mothers of Invention when I caught the band (and took photos) at the Paris Olympia in October 1968. Quote
Carl Baugher Posted April 8, 2013 Report Posted April 8, 2013 I've liked everything I've ever heard him play on recordings. Quote
