mjzee Posted July 13, 2013 Report Posted July 13, 2013 This has been mentioned before on our site, but it can't be mentioned enough! They can all be downloaded through the link Aloc gave. I mentioned it last year - see post #71: It was also discussed here, where mention is made of a box set that compiled jazz musical highlights from the shows: For those just interested in the music, the box might be a better bet. The shows themselves are of their time: a mix of music, comedy, shout-outs to the troops, and whatnot, with Master of Ceremonies Ernie "Bubbles" Whitman throughout. It takes a lot of time to listen to all of them. The box might have a little better sound quality, since it was worked on by Wally Heider. A discography of the Jubilee series can be found here: http://home.swipnet.se/dooji/jubilee.htm Quote

mjzee Posted July 13, 2013 Report Posted July 13, 2013 Your post had me revisit archive.org, and I now see they have V-Discs 100 - 903. Anyone familiar with some good ones to start with? http://archive.org/details/V-discs1-991943-1944 Quote
medjuck Posted July 13, 2013 Report Posted July 13, 2013 (edited) http://archive.org/details/AfrsJubilee The Jubilee! radio show was broadcast on the Armed Forces Radio Service (AFRS) and featured "Negro" performers.I've listened to most of these. Some of them are great (some not so great-- especially the later ones). The first one features Duke Ellington and I thought I got it from this site, but I guess not. I'd love to find those between 1 and 37 somewhere. Some look like they'd be really interesting. Each program is discussed here:http://home.swipnet.se/dooji/jubilee.htm Edited July 13, 2013 by medjuck Quote
