Teasing the Korean Posted August 3, 2013 Report Posted August 3, 2013 Any readers of Gary Shteyngart here? I've read three of his books, I think all of them so far. Very funny, yet with very sobering underlying viewpoints. Recommended. Quote
mjazzg Posted August 4, 2013 Report Posted August 4, 2013 Yes, someone. I thoroughly enjoyed "Super sad true love story" and on the evidence of that one I'll read others. i found him a very acute writer pinpointing some of society's pricklier questions but as you say with great humour. I read him as a very American writer, I'm not sure why just a tranatlantic distanced view I suppose. Quote
ejp626 Posted August 4, 2013 Report Posted August 4, 2013 I read Absurdistan. It was fun. It was probably a little over-rated when it debuted. I kept thinking of The White Tiger, which was also a bit over-hyped for at least my reading pleasure. For a slightly different take on East-West relations, I would recommend A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian by Marina Lewycka. Quote
