tjluke68 Posted January 5, 2015 Report Posted January 5, 2015 (edited) Not really an artist discography but a label discography question: Having an issue with the first BLUE NOTE 78 as I have 3 copies of the MEADE LUX LEWIS #1 78 (Melancholy c/w Solitude). I have 3 copies of this 78 - two have the 767 Lexington Ave address and one has a 10 W 47th address. This site here - http://rnsdb.x10.mx/recs/labelslGrcbluenote.pdf- shows that the 10 W 47th address didn't come into play until 1944, so would that make my 10 WEST 4TH 78 a "reissue"? Thanks in advance for any information gleaned from my fellow forum members!!! Edited January 5, 2015 by tjluke68 Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted January 5, 2015 Report Posted January 5, 2015 The concept of "reissue" is often misunderstood by collectors. Blue Note probably pressed a couple hundred copies initially and repressed as orders dictated until orders stopped (or were too small to be profitable). BN #1 was continually available for a number of years and labels were reprinted with each press run. The first copies had pink and black labels. Your 47th Street issue is a late pressing of the original issue, not a reissue. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted January 6, 2015 Report Posted January 6, 2015 great music, cool artifact - wish I had one in the racks (though I don't have a 78 turntable). Quote
