ejp626 Posted January 9, 2016 Report Posted January 9, 2016 Has anyone seen the latest tour by the SF Jazz Collective? Apparently it features them doing new compositions and the other half is the music of Michael Jackson. I realize they did the music of Stevie Wonder a year or two ago, though I could see how that would have more possibilities than MJ's music, which strikes me as considerably simpler and not all that interesting as a starting point for jazz soloing. But perhaps I am just being far too snobbish about the whole thing. They are coming through Toronto in a few months, and I haven't really decided either way, though I may go in the end. Quote
BFrank Posted January 10, 2016 Report Posted January 10, 2016 Didn't sound that interesting to me, either, and I skipped their shows at SFJAZZ this year. Having said that, they're creative and diverse enough to make just about anything interesting. Quote
ejp626 Posted April 30, 2016 Author Report Posted April 30, 2016 I decided not to go, in large part because I just don't think the jazz-stylings of Michael Jackson are that interesting. But also, I just attended a concert at Massey Hall and didn't enjoy the overall experience. Quote
Lazaro Vega Posted June 14, 2016 Report Posted June 14, 2016 They're coming into Grand Rapids next Spring playing the music of Miles Davis, www.scmc-online.org Quote

ejp626 Posted June 27, 2016 Author Report Posted June 27, 2016 Yeah, that I would go to -- or the music of Benny Golson. Quote
