mikeweil Posted August 2, 2024 Report Posted August 2, 2024 (edited) Excellent new release! Indispensable for anyone interested in the genre. 17 hours ago, soulpope said: Looks interesting .... The booklet essay is first class. The music is more "modern" than what we know from Abel, bordering on early classical. These were his last compositions before his health failed due to many years of alcohol abuse. Edited August 2, 2024 by mikeweil Quote

I didn't expect something, just started to listen. It's not to bad, ... it's pretty slow but more significant it misses the poetic/idyllic almost idealistic touch this piece screams for (or is that just me ?!). Someone else described this version like Neumann in the rol of a wise story-teller instead of a poet and i agree with him. Quote

Although not a general rule (at least for me), I would see some Czech music more "at home" with a domestic orchestra .... in this case : Recorded in February 1975 .... btw this Cover Art used for a Quadrophonic Reissue in 1981 .... This recording hits the spot ! Delivers a transparant and stately performance despite being a little slow. No, that Leipzig recording doesn't sound good to me. Quote
