Alexander Hawkins Posted May 18, 2018 Report Posted May 18, 2018 I am indeed. Various pieces I've known and loved for a long while, but was only passingly familiar with most of the operas; so have been listening to these virtually non-stop for weeks (it seems!) now. I don't think it had ever quite sunk in just how *individual* Janacek was/is. And the sound of the Czech orchestras, and language, is just another reason...incredible... Quote

Agree about the sound of Czech Ocherstras (of the past) .... obviously I`m biased regarding the language`s beauty  .... Quote

HutchFan Posted May 20, 2018 Report Posted May 20, 2018 (edited) Now spinning this LP, prompted by soulpope's Géza Anda records earlier in this thread: I love the absolute directness of Anda's Chopin playing. No perfume, no fussiness. "Manly" Chopin. Not that other approaches to this music are off-track. It's just that Anda draws out aspects of this music that others sometimes overlook -- a sort of pithy strength. Edited May 20, 2018 by HutchFan Quote
