Dmitry Posted February 15, 2016 Report Posted February 15, 2016 I'm excited about this gig, never having heard Ramsey live. Somewhat ambiguous about the solo aspect of the gig. Anyone heard him solo? I would imagine he'd be more comfortable in the trio or quartet setting. Quote
Dmitry Posted February 19, 2016 Author Report Posted February 19, 2016 Lewis has some serious chops for standards and stride. He played Coltrane's Dear Lord! I didn't expect that. He also talked about Maurice White, warmly reminiscing about him and their work on the Sun Goddess. All-together it was an almost 90 minutes-worth of solo Steinway & Sons. Lewis is going to be 81 this year. Quote
Tom in RI Posted February 20, 2016 Report Posted February 20, 2016 Hey Dmitri, where was this? I saw Leon Russell last night at the Odeum in EG, not bad but too loud. Quote
Dmitry Posted February 20, 2016 Author Report Posted February 20, 2016 Bryant university. A nice small amphitheatre venue. Are you going to the Frankenfest? Quote
Teasing the Korean Posted February 20, 2016 Report Posted February 20, 2016 The full title cuts off when viewing the list of topics, and I thought it said "Ramsey Lewis Solo on Rhodes!" Quote
