HutchFan Posted March 4, 2016 Report Posted March 4, 2016 (edited) During the last two months of 1979, Walter Davis, Jr. made three solo albums, all issued on European labels. (I assume that he took advantage of the opportunity to record them while on a European tour.) The records are: Uranus (Paloscenio) A Being Such as You (Red) 400 Years Ago, Tomorrow (Owl) I haven't heard any of them, and none are in print. My question: If you've heard any of these, what do you think? BTW: I like Davis' playing elsewhere; for example, on Sonny's Horn Culture and Jackie's New Soil, with Sonny Criss, Art Blakey, etc. But I've never heard him play solo. T.D. Posted March 4, 2016 Report Posted March 4, 2016 There's some related discussion on this 2015 thread: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php?/topic/78166-walter-davis-jr/ Quote

I noticed that Mark Stryker said he really liked A Being Such as You. But otherwise, I didn't see any mention of these LPs. Edited March 4, 2016 by HutchFan Quote
HutchFan Posted March 6, 2016 Author Report Posted March 6, 2016 Bump. No one has heard these, eh? Quote
JSngry Posted March 8, 2016 Report Posted March 8, 2016 I've bought and/or unethically downloaded 2 of the 3, but have not listened to them yet. Building a stockpile, waiting for what, that's the question. No good answer yet. But I did so with high expectations (of Davis, not of myself). Quote
HutchFan Posted March 8, 2016 Author Report Posted March 8, 2016 Would love to hear what you think, Jim -- when you have a chance to give 'em a listen. Quote
JSngry Posted March 8, 2016 Report Posted March 8, 2016 I think some of them might have cuts up on YouTube? Quote
