randissimo Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 Help! We need to find an agent or manager who can hook us up! We need international airplay, magazine press, retail Cd distribution, and good gig connections.. We are stuck right now in a holding pattern in Michigan with a fine Cd, a tight performance repertoire, but not much happening.. Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 Yeah, and I'm even trying to sell my horn... Ebay Quote
randissimo Posted April 17, 2003 Author Report Posted April 17, 2003 Yeah, and I'm even trying to sell my horn... Ebay Hang in there James! We just have to be patient and keep pushing forward! We should try and get a copy of the Cd to MMW while they are jammin' in our neighborhood. Also, I'm at the Firefly this Saturday with PVH. I'll make sure Susan is aware of our growing popularity in the greater Ann Arbor metropolis.. Quote
Jim Dye Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 Hey Jim, sorry that you're selling your horn. I'd buy it in a second, but I won't have the extra scratch until late May. I worked for a while with Suzi Reynolds in New York who now manages Frank Lacy, Howard Johnson and Lynne Arriale. She used to manage Jerome Richardson and Teri Thornton until they passed away a couple years ago. She also did marketing and distribution for TCB Music SA, a Swiss jazz label. Now she is working with Motema records. I can't make any promises, and I'm not sure if she is looking for more clients, but I'd be happy to pass along a CD and press kit to her. You never know! She has a zillion contacts both foreign and domestic. Quote

Our main problem is we live in an area (Michigan) that doesn't have much of an entertainment or cultural scene. Though there are small fragments of scenes in other towns, Ann Arbor and Detroit are really the only 2 cities that have anything happening. The rest of the state is pretty much a generic wasteland of status quo pop & country music lovers.. Organissimo is based out of Lansing and right now there is no place in that town where we can even get a gig! Here's another problem we have: Though we've been getting good radio airplay around the state, I think a lot people who hear us and would like to buy our Cd don't know where to find it because it's not available in most CD retail outlets and they most likely don't know we have a website because most radio DJs playing our CD don't or can't tell the listeners how to contact us to get the CD We appreciate anybody's feedback or suggestions. We have a special chemistry happening with this band that is rare and definately worthwhile! Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 Silly suggestion, perhaps, but is there any value (perhaps only tiny amount) in getting your band and CD added to the "www.allmusic.com" database?? (Both a bio, and a review.) Just for yucks, a few days ago I seriously looked up "Organissimo" on AMG, only to find no entry. Probably doesn't do a thing for you in terms of getting gigs, but perhaps there's some small value in it - especially if you can get a good on-line review out of it, in terms of being able to pass the word about your band and recording(s). A good review there might also be a way to lend some credibility to others who haven't heard you, and are considering hiring you for gigs. Other on-line reviews would be helpful too, I suspect, but AMG is kind of a one-stop "what's this group all about" place to go, and I think lots of people go there, where they wouldn't necessarily know to look for reviews of your album in other contexts. (Then again, they'd have to be specifically looking for your AMG bio and/or review, in the first place.) Just some more ideas... Quote
Jim Dye Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 Hey Randissimo, I know exactly where you are coming from. I am from Lansing and know the sometimes sad state of cultural affairs going on there. I used to manage the Wherehouse Records on Grand River across from Michigan State. I moved down here to Tennessee about 8 years ago to get my degree in music business. I had planned on moving to New York, and actually worked there for about a year total with Ms. Reynolds, but ultimately decided to look for opportunities elsewhere. Its a tough out there right now, especially in the music industry. I hope to check you guys out when I'm back in town. (Are you playing around the weekend of 4th of July?) Good luck! Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 Jim, Do you need a press pack to lay on her? If so, PM me with your address and I'll send one or two to you. And conerning AMG, Michael G. Nastos writes for them who DJ's at WEMU, who are playing our CD quite regularly. So you'd think we'd end up in there at some point. Quote

So you'd think we'd end up in there at some point. It either just simply never occured to Michael G. or he just hasn't had the time to plug us into the AMG.. We should never assume something like that is getting done.. Another reason why we badly need somebody with the time and resources to follow up matters of this nature. It is definately worth bringing to his attention. Let's send him an email on the subject.. Quote
