jazzhound Posted February 27, 2004 Report Posted February 27, 2004 I have a couple of vintage Prestige records that have DW stamped on the back cover. Both are less than good listens, despite looking near mint. Could DW mean "defective wax"? Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted February 27, 2004 Report Posted February 27, 2004 Before the record industry discovered the saw and the hole punch they marked cutouts with rubber stamps. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted February 27, 2004 Report Posted February 27, 2004 Both are less than good listens, despite looking near mint. That is not uncommon with early Prestige/New Jazz LPs. They used a pretty cheap pressing plant for some runs, so I'm told, and consequently, well, I find it hard to hear parts of "Gil Evans and Ten" over the crackle, for example. Quote
Jim Dye Posted February 27, 2004 Report Posted February 27, 2004 Maybe it was just a copy that was once owned by Darrell Waltrip? Quote
