GA Russell Posted October 22, 2016 Report Posted October 22, 2016 I am looking at the relatively new box set Astrud Gilberto - 5 Original Albums. https://www.amazon.com/5-Original-Albums-Astrud-Gilberto/dp/B019GAUOSW The last album is called "I Haven't Got Anything Better to Do." Not only have I never heard it before, but I don't think I ever saw it in the stores! Does anyone have an opinion of it? Thanks! Quote
JSngry Posted October 23, 2016 Report Posted October 23, 2016 It's mellow, it's soft pop, and it's beautiful. Windy is the one in that batch I don't know very eell. Quote
JSngry Posted October 23, 2016 Report Posted October 23, 2016 But know that the whole record is less than 30 minutes, so if they put it on a full CD, it's gonna be a waaaaaay short one. Quote
JSngry Posted October 23, 2016 Report Posted October 23, 2016 annnnd...for some reason, Uruguay got the same album titled Una Lagrima... A Tear...which fits the cover, and the mood (mostly) a lot better than I Haven't Got Anything Better To Do. Go figure, Uruguay. http://www.popsike.com/ASTRUD-GILBERTO-1969-VERVE-URUGUAY-NM-Latin-Jazz-UNA-LAGRIMA-anything-better/401169740871.html Quote
JSngry Posted October 23, 2016 Report Posted October 23, 2016 1 hour ago, rostasi said: You beat me to Wailing of the Willow. Actually, probably her finest album. Also, Windy is pretty good if you're sugared up for the title tune. The Marcos Valle song, "Crickets Sing for Anamaria" is the highlight. Another thing: I think Pat Williams did the arrangements. I wish Duke Pearson could have done a record with her. But then, Duke got Flora...and no complaints here. Quote
GA Russell Posted October 23, 2016 Author Report Posted October 23, 2016 Thanks Jim and Rod! Rod, I too think that Crickets is the best song on the Windy album. I think that you have a higher opinion of that album than I do. I picked it up thirty years ago at a used record store. I think that I have all of her other Verve albums except the one where on the cover she is walking past an outdoor cafe whose tables have Campari umbrellas. Anyone know that one? Quote
