I'm only just now discovering that Sonny Sharrock kind of reworked John's Children from Byard Lancaster for his album Ask the Ages. Makes sense as Sharrock played on Byard's album. Any other songs out there that use this rhythm?

You can probably reverse-engineer it back to "Equinox" quicker than it would take to think of an exact answer?

Good call. I knew I'd heard it somewhere else but could not think of it.

Miles Davis “In Concert” Sony 20 bit SBM LP facsimile 2 cd set, disc 2

I think this release of “In Concert” sounds wonderful. I am always impressed by Michael Henderson, his bass playing just always floors me. Gave Miles just what he wanted and was the hearbeat of the band.

Bossarenova Trio - Paula Morelenbaum, Joo Kraus, Ralf Schmid “Atlantico” Skip Records cd

I think my system will lose a few pounds playing this one back in full. . . . Brilliant IMO.

In my car, I've been playing the contents of Coltrane's "The Complete Prestige" box set and when I got to the sessions with Paul Quinichette, I said to myself, "Man, this guy has such a unique sound", forgetting that his nickname was "Vice Prez" because he sounded so much like Lester Young. I haven't spun any 1950's Lester in a long time so I was thinking maybe I'd forgotten how he sounded so...

Now playing:

Next up will be "Lester Young With The Oscar Peterson Trio". :)

BTW - the other thing I've gotten out of giving this massive Coltrane box set a full listen is that I really don't like Ray Draper's tuba solos at all.

Billy Mitchell - The Colossus of Detroit (Xanadu). I'm playing this from a needle-drop CD-R that I made from my old LP. Not the best audio to begin with so I don't know that I'd ever upgrade if a legit CD came out. :)
