sidewinder Posted March 1, 2019 Report Posted March 1, 2019 The new expanded hardback of this near-1000 page tome has just been issued. Covers reviews for UK album releases over the 1960s through to mid-70s, including old historical reviews as well as new review insights. In addition to rock/prog/folk/blues there is also good modern jazz coverage plus more limited ‘trad’. Tony Higgins of ‘Jazz Britannia’ fame has apparently contributed the jazz content so could be very interesting ! Anyone ordered this ? Quote

sidewinder Posted March 4, 2019 Author Report Posted March 4, 2019 (edited) My tome arrived - one heck of a compendium. In terms of UK modern jazz coverage over the period in question, there is good coverage of the key LP releases plus quite a number of real obscurities e.g. stuff on Saydisk, private issues, library LPs etc. There doesn’t seem to be coverage of EPs which means that, for example, rare but important releases by Shake Keane are missed. These are minor quibbles though - the whole thing is quite breathtaking in its detail and includes valuable contemporary reviews and advertising visuals, which set the scene nicely. Printing quality is also excellent. Anyone who is also into rock/prog rock and folk is going to have a feast with this book ! Edited March 4, 2019 by sidewinder Quote
