robviti Posted March 13, 2004 Report Posted March 13, 2004 (edited) Has anyone ever seen the video of the play The Connection? It was released on vhs in 1987 by Mystic Fire and features Freddie Redd's quartet with Jackie McLean, Larry Richie, and Michael Mattos. The reviews are favorable, and I think it would be interesting to catch a glimpse of the music many of us know and love in its original context. Unfortunately, it's oop and I can't find it anywhere. Anyone out there have any...connections? Edited March 13, 2004 by jazzshrink Quote
brownie Posted March 13, 2004 Report Posted March 13, 2004 This has to be the Shirley Clarke film with actors from the Living Theater. Saw this back in the '60s when the film was a minot hit on the Paris art theaters circuit. You got a chance to hear Freddie Redd's group with Jackie McLean. Film is OK. The music was great! Good luck on your search for a copy! Quote
robviti Posted March 13, 2004 Author Report Posted March 13, 2004 You're correct, it is the Shirley Clarke/Living Theater film. I probably should have mentioned that in my post. Quote
Dmitry Posted March 13, 2004 Report Posted March 13, 2004 Last week I saw the vhs for $50 locally. Quote
JSngry Posted March 13, 2004 Report Posted March 13, 2004 The music is fine. The acting is hideous (or unintentionally hilarious, take your pick...), making "The Gene Krupa Story" look like a work of great delicacy and subtlety in comparison. Quote
