GA Russell Posted November 4, 2019 Report Posted November 4, 2019 Roger Penske has purchased the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the Indianapolis 500 and its series from the Hulman family. This to me is great news. I expect Penske's people to show a great improvement regarding competence. https://autoweek.com/article/indycar/roger-penske-buys-indianapolis-motor-speedway-ntt-indycar-series Quote
danasgoodstuff Posted November 7, 2019 Report Posted November 7, 2019 That's interesting news, that I've heard nowhere else. Thanks. Quote
Dave Garrett Posted November 8, 2019 Report Posted November 8, 2019 (edited) That's about the best possible scenario, given the family's apparent desire to divest a lot of their holdings after Mari Hulman George's death. "The Captain" runs a tight ship. Anticipating questions regarding conflict of interest as a team owner and a track owner, he's already indicated he will be stepping back from day-to-day operations of the team and his usual position running race-day strategy to focus on running the Speedway. JSngry Posted November 8, 2019 Report Posted November 8, 2019 If he can buy Indianapolis, will he maybe buy Greenland while he's at it? Quote
Dave James Posted November 8, 2019 Report Posted November 8, 2019 Since the death of Dale Earnhardt, U.S. automobile racing has seen its popularity plummet. Gran Prix appears to be the healthiest of the major players, but Indy Car and NASCAR have fallen on hard times. If you're a fan, you have to cross your fingers and hope that Penske will be able to gin up some much-needed interest in American racing. Quote
GA Russell Posted November 8, 2019 Author Report Posted November 8, 2019 If I owned the Indy 500, I would first make it clear to the public what they are watching, and why anyone might care. For example, what is an Indycar, and what makes it special enough to watch? Quote
