Justin V Posted May 27, 2020 Report Posted May 27, 2020 Seeing Ghost of Miles' remark that people were treating Memorial Day like it was V-Covid Day prompted me to wonder what people observed over the weekend. My in-laws threw a party on Sunday. Beyond the Facebook invite that my wife ignored, she heard nothing else of it. Her mother likely knew that it was an awful idea and decided not to even broach the subject. With my wife's grandfather being in very poor health and now living across the street from my in-laws and probably attending, it was a recipe for disaster. Here in Ohio, I walk around the neighborhood with my dog and saw several parties, including one large one. The only mask I saw was worn by a woman in her 60s who had it around her neck and was hugging a teenager. With 4th of July around the corner, I only see the situation worsening. Our society is too selfish and shortsighted. Quote
jazzbo Posted May 27, 2020 Report Posted May 27, 2020 I've seen similar things in my area of NE Ohio and it really disturbs me. I can't see my father because his assisted living facility is keeping him safe and I am all for that--they are doing an incredible job, no infections yet of residents or staff in their three zones, independent, assisted living and nursing. I am looking forward to the day that restrictions can be relaxed and I can visit my own father. . . but with this idiotic behavior another surge is likely and that day is further off. . . not to mention that every day is fraught with danger for my father and those of his age. Someone must have wished we were to live "in interesting times." Quote
clifford_thornton Posted May 27, 2020 Report Posted May 27, 2020 yeah, our upstairs neighbors and my wife and I had dinner in the backyard, just the four of us, on Memorial Day. But that's it. We've all been locked down and hardly go anywhere, so it was pretty safe. Thankfully new infections/hospitalizations are way, way down in NYC and we are hoping that it'll stay that way for a while. I would say masks are about 50%. Clusters tend to be around 5-6 people max in the parks; I wish more would wear masks, but... it's nothing like Lake of the Ozarks or anything, either. People do spread out. They could do more, but it's not outrageous. I think younger people here are pretty much steering clear of their aged parents/grandparents. I dunno, I'm cautiously optimistic but there are always those people who don't heed state and local orders, even around NY. I do worry about tourists from other areas of the country bringing the virus back to the city, which is kinda why I hope that most of the attractions stay closed throughout the summer. Quote
