She's in really good voice there. Demons under control, maybe?

She does sound great, and her voice is remarkably unchanged, in light of the stories that I've heard.

I didn't even know she was working this late.  Wasn't her last album from 1963 or so?

No, she recorded into the second half of the 'seventies.

Yup.  Impromptu with Lou Levy is pretty darn good.

But for all intents and purposes, done by with records by '66 or so. The stories are quite sad if true...but hardly unique

I have her Capitol Latin album from, I think, 1963.  She already sounds tired and like she's going through the motions.

1965. and arranged by Ernie Freeman. Pretty dire, imo.

1972 might have been some sort of attempt to "come back", becuase that's also the year she played Newport with Kenton, which is preserved here. Ordinarily, I'd be all BFD (never been that much of a fan of hers), but....numerous charts for her by Willie Maiden, which quite possibly IS a BFD! Still an excellent Kenton band to boot!

Sad to say, Christy sounds tired and out of shape here, sort of going through motions she only maybe wants to go through. It's an uncomfortable listen for me, anyway.

That band itself is great, but the balance is awful.

And Kenton himself, when he speaks, sounds drunk.
