Noj
I have pre-existing mp3s I downloaded that I am able to play on this new car stereo I got recently. I've got 1 cdr with 157 tracks on it. My question is, how can I make mp3s of tracks off my cd collection so I can make a wild and crazy 150+ song jazz disc? I have Toast (4.1.1 I think?) for Mac and I tried to figure it out for an hour last night to no avail. I'm thinking my software might not have the capability... AfricaBrass
Noj, You need a CD Ripping program. You might be able to find one at www.download.com. I think programs like WinAmp have a ripper built in (but I'm not sure). Good luck!

Noj
MusicMatch is a good one too 7/4? I'll take a look at that too, thanks.
Jim Dye
Musicmatch is weak. You need EAC and LAME The best ripper: www.exactaudiocopy.de The best encoder: EasyLAME 1.4 OR you can just download iTunes and use their all-in-one software. It's much better than musicmatch IMHO. http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
7/4
I was using Music Match because I could record at a high resolution without paying them for anything.
Noj
Well, thanks Jim Dye as well. I'll do some comparing and see how it goes!
Jim Dye
Here is a good guide to using EAC http://www.chrismyden.com/nuke/modules.php...E&file=painless Didn't mean to diss you 7/4. I just think the other software produces much better results. If you really want to get technical about encoding then check out this forum: HYDROGEN AUDIO ***fixed the above link*** Edited March 30, 2004 by Jim Dye
Soulstation1
can you cdr a mp3 with 150-200 songs? ss1
Noj
I've got 1 cdr with 157 tracks on it. There is 700mb of space on a cdr, and mp3s make songs about 3-7mb apiece. If you have a stereo that can play mp3s...
Uncle Skid
I've been using CDEx for a long time, and it has always worked well: CDEx It's free, and it uses the LAME encoder. Lately, I've been encoding everything with VBR (variable bit rate) instead of 128k or 160k bps. Slightly larger file sizes, but noticeably better sound quality. mgraham333
I used WinAmp 5 (pro version) to rip all of my RVGs (nearly 100 discs) and it performed wonderfully. The new version has a really nice media library and some pretty cool mp3 id tag management tools.
Jazzdog
I've been using mKw for years and its production is flawless. You can convert any audio files into .mp3 or .shn files into and back from .wav flies and its interface is simple and very easy to use. All the info you need is here... http://www.etree.org/mkw.html I've been usuing this in conjunction with EAC for extraction for years and have been entirely pleased with the results. Saxophone__Vagina
EAC/LAME is the only way to go make sure you set the command line to --alt-preset standard or --alt-preset extreme for best results
