Larry Kart
a jumble of old tape cassettes, I found two gems from an NPR New Year's Eve 1979 broadcast from the Jazz Showcase -- a set by Von Freeman and two cassettes worth from The Woody Shaw Quintet. Both are exceptional. I also found tapes of my interviews with Albert Brooks, Mort Sahl, and Jonathan Winters -- the last of these, edited down, would make quite a comedy record. Winters was really flying that afternoon.
JSngry
What was Albert Brooks talking about?
Larry Kart
We had a great rambling conversation. I was staying at the Sunset Marquis Hotel on Sunset Boulevard, a place where many rock bands stayed. At one point there was a knock on the door, I went to answer it and beheld several seemingly ready for action young women who were looking for the room where the action was. They said "oops -- sorry" when they saw we were otherwise occupied, to which Albert replied, "Wait, there's a penalty."
