jazzbo Posted April 24, 2003 Report Posted April 24, 2003 Good stuff. The Tristano stuff is mostly as far as I remember live radio material that had all star sessions. . . good stuff. Quote
JohnS Posted April 25, 2003 Report Posted April 25, 2003 (edited) Didn't I have this on a Bandstand cd? I sold it a while ago but I'm sure I have the Tristano tracks elsewhere. I'll have to dig a bit deeper..... After a dig around I think the Bandstand cd may have had the Davis/Konitz band with John Lewis from the Royal Roost in 1948. Edited April 25, 2003 by JohnS Quote
JohnS Posted April 25, 2003 Report Posted April 25, 2003 I'm intruiged now, I can't find any details of these Tristano tracks-can someone kindly post the personnel, date and location please. Quote
JohnS Posted April 25, 2003 Report Posted April 25, 2003 (edited) Thanks couw, that's great. I'm grateful. Don't you just hate it when you don't recognise something. I have the Spotlite lps. I guess I'm getting too old to make the mental leap from Tristano to Ulanov Edited April 25, 2003 by JohnS Quote
FrancoisD Posted April 25, 2003 Report Posted April 25, 2003 The Tristano recordings on this album were taken from a Nov. 8, 1947 radio broadcast that was intended as a "cutting contest" between trad jazz musicians, and the "Young Turks" of modern jazz, billed as "Barry Ulanov's All-Star Modern Jazz Musicians". Tunes on this CD are only excerpts from that show. More cuts from the same date are to be found on "Charlie Parker-Young Bird, vol. 6" on the Masters Of Jazz label, if copies of that now-defunct series can still be located. Quote
