Didn't I have this on a Bandstand cd? I sold it a while ago but I'm sure I have the Tristano tracks elsewhere. I'll have to dig a bit deeper.....

After a dig around I think the Bandstand cd may have had the Davis/Konitz band with John Lewis from the Royal Roost in 1948.

Thanks couw, that's great. I'm grateful. Don't you just hate it when you don't recognise something. I have the Spotlite lps.

I guess I'm getting too old to make the mental leap from Tristano to Ulanov

The Tristano recordings on this album were taken from a Nov. 8, 1947 radio broadcast that was intended as a "cutting contest" between trad jazz musicians, and the "Young Turks" of modern jazz, billed as "Barry Ulanov's All-Star Modern Jazz Musicians". Tunes on this CD are only excerpts from that show. More cuts from the same date are to be found on "Charlie Parker-Young Bird, vol. 6" on the Masters Of Jazz label, if copies of that now-defunct series can still be located.
